the 2024 GL52 WINTER SERIES
From all accounts the 2024 GL52 Winter Series, that included the Southernmost Regatta (Jan- 15-19) and the Key West Cup presented by Quantum Sails (Feb 15-18) provided excellent fleet racing in a variety of conditions and plenty of dock-side camaraderie.
Eleven races over 5 days were sailed at the Southernmost Regatta where Victor Wild’s (San Diego, CA) FOX team topped the leaderboard with 17points, followed by David Team’s (Newport Beach, CA) VESPER (23pts), Doug DeVos’ (Holland, MI) WINDQUEST (32pts) and Chris Duhon’s (Key Largo, FL) MOCKINGBIRD (46pts).
Although Larry Landry and Paul McDowell’s (Newport, RI) PROSPECTOR finished one point out of 4th; they definitely took the prize for the best post-sailing dock party—Taco Tuesday with a live Mariachi band! +More photos here.
At the Key West Cup where nine races were sailed over 3 days, final results mirrored those of the Southernmost, although 2 of the teams swapped out skippers—at the Key West Cup, VESPER was helmed by Doug DeVos and Dalton Devos took the helm on WINDQUEST.
From here, FOX, VESPER and PROSPECTOR are heading to Newport, RI for the season while MOCKINGBIRD and WINDQUEST will rejoin 9 or more GL52 teams at the 2024 Great Lakes series.
