GL52 North American Fleet Kicks Off season with 2024 Winter Series

KEY WEST, FLORIDA USA (January 15, 2024) – Today the GL52 North American fleet will kick off its the 2024 racing season at the Southernmost Regatta, the first in a series of events called the GL52 Winter Series which also includes the Key West Cup presented by Quantum Sails from February 15-18, 2024.

Five of the most competitive GL52 teams are set to sail in ten races scheduled over five days off of Key West. The teams are: Victor Wild’s (San Diego, CA) FOX; Chris Duhon’s (Key Largo, FL) MOCKINGBIRD; Larry Landry & Paul McDowell’s (Newport, RI), PROSPECTOR; David Team’s (Newport Beach, CA) VESPER; and Doug & Dalton DeVos’ (Holland, MI) WINDQUEST. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded for both daily and overall results in the class.

The 2024 GL52 Winter Series is sanctioned by the North American GL52 fleet; the Southernmost Regatta is organized by Sailing Inc.

Thanks to strong fleet building in the Great Lakes, as many as 14 GL52s will participate in the 2024 season; events are planned in Florida (GL Winter Series), the Great Lakes and Newport, RI later this year.

The GL52 Winter Series, is intended to encourage like-minded TP52 type boat owners, with a healthy mix of amateur and pro sailor crews, to compete in similarly configured boats under the ORC on a Time-on-Time basis in a group of buoy races that form a Winter series.

The Southernmost Regatta powered by Sailing Inc., is a fun, sustainable event that features 5 consecutive days of high-quality racing on the picturesque blue waters of Key West, FL. The event is open to One Design and ORC Racing / Cruising Keelboats.

Founded in 2019 by five TP52 owners– Doug Devos, Windquest; Chris Duhon, Mockingbird; Austin Fragomen, Interlodge; Robert Hughes, Heartbreaker and Phil O’Niel, Natalie J.,– the GL52 North American fleet is member of the TP52 Class Association which incorporates TP52 Class Global, the 52 Super Series and TP52 Australia.

The 52 SUPER SERIES was established in 2012 as an initiative by three key stakeholders, respectively the owners of Quantum Racing, Azzurra and Rán. The Super Series has become renowned as the world’s leading grand prix monohull yacht racing circuit consisting of five regattas per season in Europe with regular early year events in the USA.

The TP52 Class Association was started in 2001 by owners who wanted to race a Grand Prix sailboat that is fun, safe and reliable. TP52’s are flat-out racing platforms, fully crewed, high- performance monohulls capable of racing in both buoy regattas and offshore races.
